"Generally, heavy and empty containers are stacked at the docks. Why are there out-of-stock yards? Why is it that sometimes cargo is picked up in a quick timeframe and other times it takes days? Today we will talk about the relationship between container yard and pickup efficiency!

"Container yard" and "pickup efficiency"

Container yard: refers to the container terminal or the area around the terminal, for the delivery and storage of containers in the place, sometimes the container yard will also be called the station. Imported goods will be stored in the yard, the owner needs to pick up the container is also to go to the yard to pick up the container.

Container pickup speed mainly lies in the shipping company will be stored in the public dock yard, or dedicated dock yard. Dedicated terminal refers to a shipping company and terminal co-operation, container ships have priority port call, priority loading and unloading of goods, that exclusive yard is also refers to special stacking of the shipping company's container cargo yard. For example, Duffy Group's EXX route has an exclusive yard at TraPac terminal.

In addition, the efficiency of the container is also affected by the reason that the container does not match the frame, if the container matches the frame then the truck driver with the head of the truck over to the container can be picked up directly.

Take the situation of the U.S. container yard as an example: because the U.S. truck head and frame are separate, so in the peak season of shipping, many truck teams because they do not wait for the matching frame, will be delayed to pick up the container time.

"Inner Yard" and "Outer Yard"

Container yard can be divided into inner yard and outer yard. The inner yard and outer yard is another reason that affects the efficiency of container lifting. Port yard is usually in the scope of the terminal, and the port hinterland has a certain distance; port yard is outside the scope of the terminal, generally in the port and the hinterland of the channel.

Outside the yard will have two stacking forms, one is wheeled, that is, the container is stored in the yard alone and with a good frame, truck drivers only need to take the truck head over to the container can be picked up directly. This kind of pickup efficiency is quite high, and the container goods in the outer yard do not need to make an appointment in advance to pick up the container.

Another way of stacking is ground, i.e. ground stack. Here the containers will be stacked one by one, in addition to the outside of the yard does not have the kind of dock can be moved back and forth, only the front crane. The front crane can only lift the topmost container, so the containers in the ground stack will take some time to wait for matching racks, searching for containers and finally taking out the containers, so the efficiency of picking up the containers will be much slower.
